Fair Trade Tourism Position Paper 2008
South Africa's Fair Trade in Tourism recently tackled the ongoing debate over white shark cage diving.
Their February 2008 position paper on the matter is a "must read" for shark diving operators worldwide.
Globally shark tourism is a 300 million dollar industry and growing.
Thanks for the heads-up, it is indeed an important paper and for once, well balanced too.
It however raises -mind you, without endorsing them- the same old tired questions regarding positive conditioning (and negative, there's a new twist to the saga...) and of course, the usual "associating humans with food" argument.
A proper rebuttal is going to be too long for this space - guess I'll have to pick up this thread of yours (again.....) & write something more meaty on ours.

Anyway, good find, as always.
That old saw was debunked by Rodney Fox and Company and their research paper addressing chum and habituation.
The industry is growing, where it goes will be up to those within the industry.
Position papers like these help more than they hurt.
