Tiger Beach, Bahamas 2012 - Take Out for Tigers

Last week Scotty Gray from the venerable and always fun M/V Kate and Blue Iguana Charters entertained a few of our divers at Tiger Beach, Bahamas.

As many of you know it's an exciting dive site and one of our go-to sites for the many film and television productions we do each year with the help of the crew from the Kate (seriously these guys are the best).

One of the Tigers decided to try and take her dinner Take Out (that bait tube is 4 feet long). You never really know what or who you'll get at Tiger Beach when you dive there looking for big sharks, which makes this dive site one of our favorites on the planet.

Like a puppy with a chew-toy.

Shark Free Marinas, Bahamas It Starts With "One"

We are proud to announce the first of 10 marinas in the Bahamas who have joined the Shark Free Marinas Initiative saying "no" to shark kills by educating the public to sustainable catch and release fishing.

Our goal is to have these signs and public education material at a minimum of 30 marinas in the Bahamas. Based on the initial response thus far it looks like we might just meet this goal.

For now please join us in thanking and supporting the Bimini Sands Resort Marina who, with the help of Katie Grudecki, have realized the need for sustainable shark management in the Bahamas and now stand as educational point guards against the taking of sharks for "images and weigh ins".

Everything begins with "One"

Great White Shark Bahamas? Oh Yeah!

At the start of this week we got a strange email from the Bahamas a great white had washed ashore off Grand Bahama.

"Several of Unexso staff including Christina & Veronica heard about it and went out and shot the pictures below. They heard the shark was chasing bait fish and leaped out of the water landing on a shallow ledge as the tide was going out. They checked the stomach and it was empty. This happened in XXX which is the town XXX of the port on the way to XXX."

Of course we did a little digging around and it sounded like it was a great white. Without any images it was hard to make a confirmation.

Unfortunately the locals have all but carted away 40% of this critter and the jaws.

This would be one of the rarest shark encounters of the season...too bad no one saw this shark in the ocean where it belongs.
