Mystery Missile Launches off Catalina...MythBusters?

The news today that a "sizable" missile was launched at sea off the coast off Catalina yesterday has Pentagon and Navy officials denying involvement.

"It's spectacular it takes people's breath away," said former U.S. Ambassador to NATO Robert Ellsworth, calling the projectile, "a big missile".

So, who launched it?

For the money we're wondering where Adam and Jamie - The MythBusters - were last night.

Both gents like things that go boom, and as far as we're concerned they're about the only guys in California with the expertise to pull off a "sizable missile launch".

Time will tell as this very strange story come to light.

Update: There's a rumor floating around Catalina Island right now of a fisherman who saw the launch at sea last night.

Discovery Channel - New Management New Direction?

Discovery Networks released the first in a series of internal video conference calls with their new Director of Programming, Matt Mann.

Apparently Mr.Mann is no fan of Shark Week for reasons that boggle even our very lively imaginations here at Underwater Thrills, and we thought this was about making sharks look bad.

In our industry you get to work with some very unique and remarkable people.

This spring Luke Tipple dive operations manager for Shark Diver and crew kept Jamie and Adam-The MythBusters-out of harms way at Tiger Beach, Bahamas while they explored the wild world of sharks.

Shark Week Mythbusters 2008

With just a few weeks to go until this years 2008 Shark Week we can begin to tell you about this springs shoot with the guys from Mythbusters.

Well actually we can't.

Suffice to say SharkDivers was called upon to select the dive sites, wrangle the sharks, build the cage systems, to provide the right shark environment for Discovery Channels top grossing show hosts Adam and Jamie.

Underwater shark expert Luke Tipple was their go to guy for all things sharky this spring.

We can tell you both Jamie and Adam are two of the most original guys we have either met on and off camera and their entire crew were complete professionals. It's little wonder MythBusters has been the top rated show on Discovery and they were handed the coveted 2 hour show special this season.

Miami, Florida -- Shark Week, summer television's must-see event, is back for its 21st year on Discovery Channel, from July 27 to August 1, 2008 at 9PM ET/PT.

Cable television's longest-running programming event will kick off Sunday, July 27 at 9PM ET/PT with the Mythbusters Shark Special. This two-hour special follows the MythBusters as they hit the deep blue to take a bite out of shark folklore. Among the myths tackled in this special: Are sharks repelled by magnets? Do dogs attract sharks? Do the vibrations caused by a flapping injured fish attract sharks?

Throughout the week, Discovery will run public-service announcements for the Ocean Conservancy, educating viewers about threats facing sharks.

Last year's Shark Week was watched by 27.2 million viewers, the most successful Shark Week to date.

Mythbusters Set To Swim With Sharks

Each episode of the Discovery Channel show MythBusters takes on multiple myths and uses modern-day science to show what's real and what's fiction. One myth the MythBusters will investigate during the Shark Week episode they will shoot in the Bahamas next week will be the idea that magnets can control sharks' movements.

This drawing by MythBusters co-host Jamie Hyneman shows how he intends to examine the concept. Basically, he has designed a system where he will attach two electromagnets to a shark's nose and rig the system so that he can send tiny little electric pulses to the magnets to activate them. The idea is that if the magnet on the shark's left side is activated, it will turn right, and vice-versa. The shark will not be harmed during the experiment, which will be conducted under the supervision of a marine biologist.
